The development of science and technology due to globalization is becoming increasingly rapid and encouraging international interdependence activities through the economic and cultural fields. Indonesia is a member country of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is of course not only required to participate in the program ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), but also contributes to economic growth, social progress and cultural development, especially in the ASEAN region. Cultural development will not be possible to realize by only relying on the role of the government sector alone, but it also requires a strong desire from the community as part of civil society to improve language skills. Language is the most important part of a nation's social progress because it is the root of culture and represents human civilization.
Globalization is what allows the exchange of ideas and the movement of goods and services, and provides challenges as well as opportunities for Indonesian people to become part of this international phenomenon. A foreign language mastery, especially proficiency in a third foreign language other than English, hence becomes the main indicator for improving individual abilities in global competition. Language skills can help individuals to better understand the character and culture of foreigners, thereby facilitating the adaptation and negotiation process when collaborating with foreign partners. Under this premise, the Language Training Center (LTC) which is part of PT. Umat Mandiri Berkemajuan (PT. UMB) is serving the role of the axis in the management of foreign languages within the scope of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in particular, and Yogyakarta comprehensively through its training, translation, and testing services.
Pusat Pelatihan Bahasa (PPB) has transformed into Language Training Center (LTC) and thus not only functions as a language learning forum but has also acted as the center for organizing training and consultation activities of language development. Throughout its development, LTC does not limit itself to English, but has also built collaboration in the language and culture learning of third foreign languages such as Arabic, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Spanish, and German. The fact that the use of language cannot be separated from the reflection of the culture and identity of the origin country has encouraged a more conducive performance for LTC to respond to the more professional requests and offers of collaboration both from internal (such as foreign language training for a specific profession) and external scope in the form of workshops on career and study opportunities in certain countries. workshop peluang karir dan studi di negara tertentu.
